Graphic Designer, Photographer, Calligrapher, Painter and Illustrator Sajjad Khalid has a Masters in Graphic Design from National College of Arts, Lahore. He was trained in the art of calligraphy by late Ustad Sufi Khursheed Alam Khursheed Raqam and Sufi Abd-ur-Rasheed Lateef Raqam. He is also a poet.

Course:
Classical & Spoken Farsi on Weekends 

Level-I (6 weeks)

The course would be taught in the manner and technique used in traditional Islamic pedagogy which aims at not only using tried and tested methods of training the mind and memory but also imbibing the spirit and blessings of the tradition. 

One of the course books - traditionally a standard text for beginning level Farsi - 'Karima Saadi' by famous 13th century mystic, poet and moralist Saadi Shirazi, illustrates how the foundations of traditional culture were laid in the formation of young minds from the very beginning of their education. The book focuses on the basic virtues and vices of human nature in beautiful easily memorised Persian poetry.

Sunday 27th March: Classical Calligraphy Exhibition in Islamabad

This weekend there is no Sunday Lecture at Hast-o-Neest (which remains closed this Sunday) as we are hosting a classical calligraphy exhibition in Islamabad in an International Seminar on Sirah Writing.

Rationale of the Seminar:
…the accumulation of writings on the Prophet (peace be upon him) in different languages is massive, rich and variegated. The modern period (circa 1800 onwards), in terms of writings on the Prophet, has been spectacularly productive. By carefully analyzing the different attitudes, trends, methodologies and contents of these writings an effort will be made to undertake a holistic evaluation of this period and to explore new vistas for future studies on Sirah.

Syed M. Hasan Rizvi studied the religious sciences at Jamia al Hujjat, Islamabad for ten years. He has an M.A in Political Science from Punjab University and  MPhil in Philosophy and Aqeeda (Ahl-e-Sunnat) from International Islamic University, Islamabad. Currently he is a research scholar at Jamia-al-Kahthar, Islamabad while also teaching at Mahd-uz-Zahra, Lahore.
